Who are we?

We are a band of mothers, determined to meet the needs of the world’s children.

Who do we serve?

We take it as our duty to extend love to all “our” children…not just those born into our families.

There will always be children in need of a mother’s voice, a mother’s touch, or a mother’s love. And there should always be a mother willing to step forward into that role. For centuries mothers have banded together to support one another, fight for important child or parent rights, and have given love, money, and support to children in need.

52 MOMS (Mothers on a Mission to Serve) is a new organization in Starkville, Mississippi, of local mothers who wish to respond to children in need. The “52” represents the original vision of 52 moms serving for each week of the year. If each mother committed to one week of service, then 52 moms could adopt a year’s worth of giving to our children. As with all great ideas, though, this one too has evolved. Now, 52 MOMS does not define specific criteria for projects. We recognize that “need” comes in many different ways, and we try to allow the opportunity to give of ourselves without limitations.

Each mother in 52 MOMS is valued. Anyone may propose a project and lead that mission. As an organization, we do not seek out our projects. Our vision runs contrary to the pressure to fill a calendar with projects. We believe that as a need arises, we will respond and react appropriately. Thus, we are prepared to be used as needed and when needed; we also expect times of dormancy.

Some of the basics of 52 MOMS…

     • You need only be a mom in spirit...
     * men and women without children are more than welcome.

     • We have no mandatory meetings and no membership dues.

     • Participate as you are able.

     • We are an intergenerational, interfaith, interracial, and intercultural group.

     • New members and new projects are always welcome.

     • Volunteer opportunities arise throughout the year.

     • Members will be contacted about projects through email and website.

     • We encourage members to propose new volunteer opportunities/projects.

     • We applaud you if you involve your own children in your service efforts.
